TENNIS RACKET HISTORY

The first tennis rackets were made from laminated wood. Wilson came up with a revolutionary idea in the late 1960's to produce the first steel tennis racket. In 1975 racket technology moved towards developing rackets made of aluminium. These rackets were lighter than their steel predecessors, hence a player could generate more spin or slice on the ball.

The next step in the revolution of tennis rackets was the introduction of graphite rackets in the 1980's. The graphite rackets were lighter and stiffer than their graphite predecessors, thus allowing the player to hit the ball harder. Most of today's common rackets are now made of aluminum or of a composite of graphite, fiberglass, and other materials. The advances in racket technology today have enabled players to rally from the baseline with a lot of power and control.
